Shoalhaven is a magnificent asset uniquely suited to expansion because it was first designed with this in mind requiring no new water storage or connection and transmission infrastructure. The support of the NSW Government’s pumped hydro recoverable grant program will help Origin identify and select suitably qualified contractors to design and construct an expansion that will see us nearly double Shoalhaven’s generation capacity to nearly 480MW. Today I joined NSW Energy Minister and Treasurer Matt Kean MP and Shoalhaven City Councillors Paul Ell and Serena Copley at Origin’s Shoalhaven Pumped Storage Hydro Plant where the Minister confirmed the NSW Government’s support for our plans to expand the facility. Congratulations and thanks to all in the LPG team. On the closure of Devonport, the Origin team led a coordinated approach with our logistics partners and multiple government departments, to bring in additional trucks from mainland Australia, so that we could move LPG product up from Hobart, and ultimately ensure fuel supply was not interrupted in Tasmania. Recently that team received recognition from Tasmania’s Minister for Energy and Renewables, Guy Barnett, thanking them and noting that “every Tasmanian has been helped by the willingness, cooperation and resolve with which Origin Energy responded”. Origin supplies all LPG – which is the only source of gas for many Tasmanian businesses and customers – to the state and it is shipped into Devonport and Hobart. In Tasmania, the Port of Devonport was completely closed for two months in January and then faced limited operations for a further six months following a serious shipping incident, threatening the important supply of LPG to the island. Origin acquires large-scale solar farm development project in NSW - Origin EnergyĪt Origin, we’re committed to providing our customers with cleaner, reliable and affordable energy and this year my team has faced many challenges in our efforts to do so, ranging from extreme weather events to operational and supply chain issues. We also recently added the 74MW Carisbrook Solar Farm development in central Victoria to our portfolio.Ĭongratulations to Glenn Orgias, Scott MARTIN, Jemma Park, Steven Rigby CEngT, EngExec, CMgr, IEng, MBA, GAICD, Danielle Healey (nee Smith), Matt Hallam FAIE, Michael Craig and Gaye Carrick. Phase one of Yarrabee is expected to comprise 450 MW, and our teams will now focus on progressing development activities prior to a final investment decision targeted over the next couple of years. We have also talked about the multi-gigawatt opportunity this presents for Origin to invest in clean energy and storage, and today we have taken a step forward with those plans, announcing the acquisition of the large-scale Yarrabee Solar Farm development project in the NSW Riverina region. In February, we announced the proposed acceleration of the closure of Australia’s largest coal-fired power station, Eraring, with a grid scale battery at the site just one example of how we’ll replace that capacity in our portfolio. It’s been a big start to the year for Origin, with our generation portfolio rapidly pivoting towards cleaner energy.
